THIS IS MICKLEOVER

our mickleover

“Our Mickleover” – it’s a simple name, a simple concept. Established with the aim of binding together our ever-expanding suburb to keep that ‘village’ feel, we’re a mixed bunch of folk. Some are members of local clubs or churches. Others work in or own local shops and businesses. Several have children attending our nurseries and schools, others teach those children. All of us have a vested interest in Mickleover as a community and that’s why we’re coming together.

We have already run many events which have brought the Mickleover Community together to enjoy themselves.

We also campaign to improve the environment of Mickleover, with a current emphasis on removing the longstanding eyesore of the derelict garage site on the corner of Limes Avenue

You will have seen a difference in Mickleover at Christmas through the efforts of Our Mickleover.

Last year, there was a Christmas Tree at the Parade, a life size Nativity Scene at the Community Centre and trees in the area illuminated illuminated for the festive period. The festivities to for the lights switch-on a Band, other entertainment and Carol Singing.

The festivities for Christmas 2013 were on Sunday 1st December, when the centre of the village was closed to traffic to make room for a Christmas Market, Funfair, entertainment, refreshments, Carol SInging and other attractions, and the switching on of the new improved Christmas lights and Fireworks. It was a great success and was attended by an estimated 5000 people.  Some pictures of the event are shown below and more information is on  our Facebook site

In Autumn 2012 the volunteers planted Daffodil bulbs, funded by the Neighbourhood Board.
