our mickleover

“Our Mickleover” – it’s a simple name, a simple concept. Established with the aim of binding together our ever-expanding suburb to keep that ‘village’ feel, we’re a mixed bunch of folk. Some are members of local clubs or churches. Others work in or own local shops and businesses. Several have children attending our nurseries and schools, others teach those children. All of us have a vested interest in Mickleover as a community and that’s why we’re coming together.

We have already run many events which have brought the Mickleover Community together to enjoy themselves.

We also campaign to improve the environment of Mickleover, with a current emphasis on removing the longstanding eyesore of the derelict garage site on the corner of Limes Avenue

If you want to more details of events, visit our Facebook site

The next event will be the Mickleover by the Sea on Sunday 28th August. Come along from 12noon and enjoy the Beach, Punch and Judy, Surfing, Funfair, Food and Entertainment.

See Facebook for more details.

Our most recent event was the Summer Fete, when thousands of you joined us as roads were closed to provide a large area for festivities in the centre of the village.

The centre of the village was closed to traffic to make room for a Christmas Market, Funfair, entertainment, refreshments, Carol Singing and other attractions, and the switching on of the  Christmas lights and Fireworks. It has always been a great success and was attended by an estimated 8000 people.  Some pictures of the 2014 event are shown above and more information is on  our Facebook site

And thousands of you have joined us each year at our Christmas Festival over the last four years.

Our big event in 2014 was the Giant Waterslide and Adventure Day  which was sponsored by MBS and HUUB and raised money for Cancer UK. A Soapbox Derby is planned for 2015
Your children might have participated in our Bunny Hunts at Easter in the last four years

In September  in each year we organised the Great Mickleover Scarecrow Festival.

We even made a scarecrow live on BBC Radio Derby in 2014!

In Autumn 2012 the volunteers planted Daffodil bulbs, funded by the Neighbourhood Board.
